Brainstorm is dedicated to rigorous, academic study of what makes mental health products effective. Rather than validation, we are most interested in understanding how to systematize innovation in the mental health space in order to help entrepreneurs and clinicians provide patients and users with consistently excellent products.
Academia and the private sector have long been viewed as polar opposites. Academic medicine has a deep understanding of the ever changing guidelines and treatments that define excellent clinical care. Private sector companies excel in user engagement and quick iteration. We believe that these strengths should be combined, not siloed.
We draw on deep clinical, strategy, and design expertise to help create products capable of reaching and improving the lives of millions. We partner with nonprofits and private enterprises alike to ensure that a firm clinically grounded and patient centered perspective is hard coded into the product.

We have taken a deep dive into the mental health tech space and emerged familiar with what’s working, what’s not, and what looks most promising. With our understanding of the industry, we are synthesizing guidelines for innovators for how to build high-quality tech products for mental health.
One of the most important parts of our work as clinicians is safety. We are taking what we know from clinical practice to study and build artificial intelligence, social media safety, and create best practices for platform design.
